Holding my hand, she told me the purest truth of her life. ‘Rubina…’ she said – ‘I have always loved to stay indoors, which you know. I feel safe. But you know what, I have kept my dignity intact within the wraps of my hijab. I have always felt pure and sacred within myself. I hold myself true to Allah. You are beautiful, my child. I know I am too. But I believe that my beauty is for your father only. I assume that you are old enough to understand.’

This candid, hijab-clad, beautiful woman is my mom. I realized that day that she was more beautiful from the inside than out. I was more than proud of her since that day.
